thing is for sure though, the folks in Tamil Nadu love
Superstar. His image is omnipresent, and you can hear
songs from his films blaring wherever there's
electricity. In downtown Madurai there's a shrine to
Rajinikanth! I don't know exactly why people here hold
him so dear. I want to believe it's got something to do
with that universality I was talking about, that human
element that comes across even to me, who can barely
understand what's going on in his films because of the
high language barrier. I dunno, maybe the hero-worship
only a product of a low literacy rate and a poor economy.
It's probably a combination of both. |
